Seems to have been a lot of endings lately. And there are more to come.
I finished work a week ago. We had a fantastic day. We wore santa hats and were very very silly..! CJ put up the above sign. I knew I would get questioned about why it was my last day so I came up with a list of 5 things, and when people asked I told them to pick a number between 1 & 5 and then told them that reason. Here they are:
- The truth, that Tony was in the Air Force and had been posted to Sydney.
- That I was having a sex change operation and would be back in two months as “Kevin”
- I had a court case coming up after being charged with attempted murder. An ex had made me the shittiest cup of coffee and I went a little beserk.
- I was actually a trained sniper and was off to join the CIA.
- I was off to become a “garbage technician” with the council, the pay was a lot better
All in all it created some absolutely hysterical moments..people didn’t know whether to believe me or not. One bloke said “Man I’m gonna freak out if I come back in a coupla months and there is a Kevin here!” Another gentleman who also picked number 2 actually gave me his business card on the way out and told me to call him once in Sydney if I was looking for a job. Very cool.
But the best bit of the day? The regulars. While it’s time for me to leave hospitality behind and get myself a career as opposed to just a job, it’s the regular customers like a guy named Jesse who make it all worthwhile. See that cake below? He bought that in for me. A full cake with a lovely little bit that said they’ll miss me.
It was wonderful to get validation from someone who sees you on a regular basis that you are indeed doing a good job. We waited till it was quiet so I could sit down with Jesse for a while and cut it with him and then shared the cake with some other regular customers. It didn’t make finishing my last ever shift any easier though let me tell you! I’m going to miss my work colleagues and the customers alike.
We also had Zoe’s last day at school which meant saying good bye to all her friends and teachers. There were a few tears as we left the school grounds as she quietly told me that she couldn’t believe this was the last time she would walk out of the gate. She is just so grown up some times and perceives the world so differently to her peers. But I’m proud that she truly appreciates what a great school she did go to and that she has the ability to recognise an important part of her life. Here is a pic of her and some of her friends. There were more taken but to be honest I haven’t had time to work on them or upload them yet!
There is another ending to mention while I’m at it too. A local resident here at debambam.net has moved on to bigger and better things. Smummy has her own domain name now and will no longer be simply a subfolder on mine. Head on over and take a geezer:
We’ll miss her round here, and wish her all the best in her diggs.
Anyway, tis time for me to be off. Have to eat. Have to go out. Have to start going through miss Zoe’s things and seeing what will be taken with us and what can be donated to local charities…hope all is well with all of you and hope to see you soon.
Cheers, Kelly
