colored hair day!

Well we held a relatively small but successful morning at Zoe’s school that involved coloring the students hair if they made a gold coin ($1 or $2) donation. All up we raised $199.05 which was excellent considering the school is fairly small (about 150 odd students, maybe less) and one of those classes was off on school camp! Well done guys.

It was great to see such enthusiasm from the kids for such a worthwhile cause. Half the proceeds go to the leukemia foundation, and half to the school tuckshop. Our convenor was excited about the prospect of finally getting a food processor!

Anyway below is a pic of the back of my head. The school captains decided that seeing as how I organised it all, they needed to attack my hair too I let them do what they want. It washes out after all…

And here is Miss Zoe with some of her cool colors:

I can’t upload or publish any photos of the other students so these two will just have to do you! It was great fun to do.

As a P&C we are going to hold at least one event per term that doesn’t necessarily benefit the school. Like 40 hour famine, or jeans for genes day. We’ll help register the school and organise activities and anything needed. I think it sends a powerful message to the students that we work not only for their benefit, but for others as well. Charity begins at home, and whilst some of the homes we have at the school may not be financially able to help out lots, as a combined effort we can. And every little bit counts. It’s a fantastic and positive way to help teach the kids that there are a lot of people in this world, and indeed in our own country, that are in far worse situations than they could imagine. One thing I’ve always taught Zoe is that giving is good. We can’t go into a supermarket without her asking for coins to put in the Guidedog Association tin, or buy a charity pen or some other such thing. And I always try and keep some loose change on me for that reason.

Children are our future and if we can influence how they view the world and show them what they can do, then I beleive that is our legacy. We may not be able to solve world hunger issues or cure cancer or any of those things we strive for in our generation, but by shaping and molding those of the next generation just one child at a time, then that is our contribution to humanity. We can make charity and a social conscious part of their everyday thinking and that is how we can change the world.

Enough of the philosophical thoughts for now, it’s school holidays for the next 10 or so days here! Have a fantastic easter everyone. I’m sure I’ll be posting over the weekend, however you maybe off for holidays or something and so I’d thought I’d send my wishes along now so you can read them! Aren’t I a nice girl? And full of my own piss and importance somedays too huh?!

p.s Didn’t get that job I had the interview for, but thats ok, means there is a better one out there for me doesn’t it?!

I have friends who spout that “Charity begins at home” precisely because they believe they should look after themselves! i tell you it KILLS me. So its excellent that the debambam household is being altruistic, nice hair BTW, next year have a shave :ton:

    Go well this Easter mate

I hear ya, too many people have that kind of attitude. I try and tell the kids that if everyone helped when they can, then if they ever need help, there will be people to help them. Unfortunately unless you put it in terms that they can see something might be in it for them, they just don’t get it.
Have a safe and happy break mate

Love the hair colors…so easter egg-ish. I’m afraid I couldn’t go for the head shaving, sorry - but they can paint my hair if they want.
